What must be checked after work on a gas appliance?

Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998, reg 26(9). Four checks, immediately after the work, then notify any defect.

CheckThe regulation’s words
FlueThe effectiveness of any flue
AirThe supply of combustion air
PressureOperating pressure or heat input, or combustion performance where examining those is not reasonably practicable
OperationIts operation, so as to ensure its safe functioning

Reg 26(5) binds the person installing an appliance, not everyone who touches one: it is not left connected unless it can be used safely, or it is sealed off with an appropriate fitting.

Does this make me Gas Safe registered?

No. Reg 3 of the 1998 Regulations puts that on the person and the business, not on a document. The file has the place to record your number, categories and expiry, and the checker flags a gas job that leaves them out.

Where does it stop?

It cannot see the building. It will not tell you where the asbestos lagging runs, and it does not make a principal contractor accept your file.
